Code Amber Featured Sites

Every once in awhile we come across a site that truly captures the essence of being part of the solution.

Recently we were asked to review a video which was developed to teach kids how to be prepared for, and what to do in case they found themselves in a potentially dangerous situation with a stranger. Frankly, we receive many of these type of requests and most times we decline. However, after speaking at length with Glenn Olson about his Safety Net Kids video I decided to watch the tape and give him my feedback.

I must say that I am glad that I took the time to watch the video. Not only did I find it of superb quality and production, it was obviously a terrific tool for teaching kids how to protect themselves.

The video is entertaining as well as educational and encourages the kids to participate in various activities and quizzes to reinforce the techniques they are learning to help protect themselves. We at Code Amber are pleased to wholeheartedly endorse and recommend the Safety Net Kids video to every parent of children between the ages of four and fourteen. Your children will love it and watch it over and over again.

Through an exclusive agreement with Safety Net Kids the video is now available through Code Amber and the proceeds go to help cover our operational expenses. Click here for order information.

Here are some additional comments from others about the video:

I recently watched the Safety Net Kids video. I found it to be a very enjoyable, non-threatening tool for informing children and their parents about how to handle potential safety threats faced by children. The demonstrations, games, and humor interspersed throughout are good tools to maintain children's attention. The quizzes are helpful for reminking the children of the important concepts and helping the parents to know what areas need additional discussion or instruction. I would highly recommend this video for use in safety programs with all ages and developmental level of children.

The Safety Net Kids Video was very informative for children of all ages. It was fun and exciting to watch and I like the way the video used game time, demonstration time and quiz time to hold a childs attention. It is particularly good for children who have been abused to know it's not their fault.

The Jenna Hart Abduction Story. How We Got Our Daughter Home Safely

Findingjenna.com is not only an example of a wonderful success story involving the recovery of an abducted 3 year old; but it is more of an expression of thanks from her parents.

Jenna's parents have created a step-by-step procedure for alerting police, media and the community in the event of a child's abduction. They leave no stone unturned in their recommendations of who, when, how and why to call upon anyone who can help get the word out about the missing child.

While this site would be extremely helpful to a family going through this experience, everyone should read through it with an objective mind and make sure they know all the steps to take if the situation arises.

A very interesting spin here - you may be the person called upon by a distraught family to "help out." You may be the only one with an objective view when the family of an abducted child is going through the emotional trauma. Be prepared, be knowledgeable, make a difference.

CodeAmber.org will recognize exceptional sites from time to time which contain unique information about child safety, Amber Alerts, and legislation. If you think you've come across a site that offers something different in those areas, please Click Here to let us know.

CodeAmber.org went live on August 23rd, 2002. Since that time we have grown rapidly as you can see by the statistics in the top right hand column. The number of sites is a real time counter but we update the number of tickers served per month on the first of the following month.

To help defray the server and administrative expense associated with providing the CodeAmber ticker we are accepting donations through PayPal. Every little bit helps and donations of $25 or more will be recognized with an entry on our "Friends" page along with a link to your site if you like.
